Kicking It for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Westchester/Hudson Valley

UMAC's second annual Kick-a-Thon brought hundreds of kids and adults together in Ossining for a good cause.

The UMAC Kick-a-Thon  at Brookside Elementary School in Ossining featured hundreds of children and adults from Westchester, Putnam and Orange counties raising money to help the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Students came from UMAC centers in Briarcliff, Carmel and Warwick. Each also fielded a team for a competitive demonstration.

Chris Berlow of the UMAC Demo Team based in Briarcliff said they had organized  the second annual "Kick Out Cancer" event to raise funds for LLS and to support two UMAC students battling the disease. The day includes a bake sale, raffle prizes from a host of local businesses including ClubFit, UMAC, Moonbean Cafe, Wondrous Things and Royal Nails and a DJ.

"I think the UMAC community has done a great job of embracing the mission of the LLS and encouraging their students to reach out to their own communities to effect positive change for people affected by blood cancers," said Dennis Chillemi, executive director of the LLS of Westchester/Hudson Valley, who was one of the judges for the team demonstration section of the event. "It's a remarkable effort. Master Berlow and UMAC deserve kudos times 10."

Couldn't make the morning event? You can still support LLS by going to the St. Paul's on the Hill Concert For A Cure hosted by the UMAC bike team from 4 to 6 p.m.
