Keenan House Featured on Ossining's New App

Among the many sculpture commentaries featured on Ossining's new app tour called 'Otocast,' there is a blurb on another, hopefully more permanent addition to town, the Keenan House at the top of Main Street.

The Keenan House, despite its newness and "New American" cuisine, is all about honoring the history of its own building and its surroundings. Inside is a mix of sleek surfaces and old repurposed wood, flanked by art of Ossining from Sing Sing to the aqueduct. If these walls could talk they would tell many stories of the many businesses that spent time here.

On the app, created and designed by Ossining's own Eric Feinstsein, Keenan House provides a respite from the 1.5 mile, 15 sculpture walking tour. Here, while looking at 199 Main Street's Italianate facade, you can learn that the Keenan name goes way back.

  • In 1901, this building housed Keenan's Hotel.
  • In 1921, it was Brown's Grand Meat Market
  • In the 1950s, the building had a home furnishings store.
  • In 1981, the building was destroyed by fire.
  • In the early 1980s, it was rebuilt as Cafe Keenan, well-known throughout Westchester.
  • From here, it became Guido's Italian Restaurant for 20 years.
  • Finally it's Keenan House, boasting 100-plus beers.
Visit this and other Village hotspots, inside and out, while using the new app narration and its map. With a QR code reader app on your smartphone (also downloadable from free on iTunes) you can scan this QR code (pictured above) to download the free app from iTunes. Just do it before the sculptures come down on Oct. 26!
