cb, maybe they should put speed cameras on every road and ticket everyone that drives 1 mile perRead More hour over the speed limit. Maybe they should take it a step further and monitor every single vehicle for location and speed and store it so they can find patterns in everyone's behavior and ticket even more efficiently. All of that would be completely free of charge, of course, because it doesn't cost anything to constantly police roadways.

Q. How do you catch a NYS Trooper going off duty. A. You don't, as they're driving much to fast.Read More Nice to have a badge/gun on the highway, isn't it?
knee jerk April 18, 2014 at 06:49 pm
You know as much as the NYS Troopers can be pricks, you've got to give them some credit. When theyRead More set up speed traps they get OUT of their cars with radar guns and actually point it at cars, then have a chase car down the road. Unlike most PD's, when they hand you that ticket you have to appreciate the effort that went into it.

They took out "several other rifles"??? Yeah. Every home needs several rifles. This was aRead More disaster waiting to happen.

Such a sad story. Makes me mad too. The NRA would say that people shoot people, but if they don'tRead More have guns. My condolences to the familes. And I would like to think that anyone planning to vote for an opponent of gun control, remember this tragedy before going to the polls.

It's too bad. The Samurai was one of the best Japanese restaurants north of Manhattan. My wife and IRead More used to regularly eat lunch there. We can't wait until they reopen. Larry Z

I find it very difficult to have sympathy for someone who does drugs. Giving a false concept aboutRead More Narcan and telling folks it's going to save them, is false hope. Especially when drugs can be laced with other stuff where Narcan doesn't work. Why promote the "safe" use of drugs by providing an antidote that may not always work. I have a better idea: don't do drugs. Also, in many of our suburban areas the emergency services don't get called until someone is dead, found by mom and dad the next morning after the overdose. This is about education, not enabling our young people to do drugs and think it will all be ok if something happens because a cop will give them a nose full of Narcan.

The police already carry heart defibrillators for our bacon/egg/cheese eating residents. In NY theRead More State Police performed 170 saves out of 1095 attempts, or ~15%. Those 15% now mostly eat oatmeal and steamed broccoli for breakfast. Giving Nalaxone to the cops is no different in my view, and may result in a loser resident turning his life around for the good of all in the community. I'm no fan of drug abusing losers, but if the cops are going to show up anyway then they might as well try and save a life, even if it will be a very small percentage. I think this once again opens the debate on the readiness of our EMT/Paramedic services, not just for overdoses but for all medical emergencies. We keep increasing the expectations of our Police services but appear to continue to ignore our ambulances. Maybe it's time to give our EMT's some more responsibility or hire another paramedic or two.
DANI GARAVITo April 7, 2014 at 12:03 pm
John D makes a great point. EMS has always been treated as an after-thought, or the red headed childRead More of emergency services. Demanding that our local municipalities place some pressure on the local volunteer agencies to staff and respond quickly and appropriately would also be a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, too few people are willing to go to battle to demand a better and appropriate EMS response, whether that's a volunteer staffed ambulance or paid. Folks pay a hell of a lot of taxes in NYS, but get very very few municipal resources to show for it - especially when it comes to EMS.

The Police investigating the police. Hmmm. Clearly this was not going to go well. The officer willRead More have to live with his truth while the world lives w/o that beautiful young woman. My heart breaks for the Rebello's.
Truth Hurts April 7, 2014 at 09:06 pm
Exactly J.Cattano. My question for that District Attorney and the NCPD would be....what if thatRead More was your daughter? Horrible smh.
joshua tanner April 9, 2014 at 07:22 am
I have a friend who was a Navy Seal. He said most people would be surprised how poorly many copsRead More perform with their weapons. They really don't go to the range and practice enough, to be able to pull a weapon out under stress and make a clean shotwhere accuracy is critical.
Convicted repeat sex offender Jonathan DeLaura, 39, was sentenced to 35 years in prison
michele April 2, 2014 at 04:14 pm
Make it life in prison with out possibility of parole. Also put him in general population he willRead More get what is due to him. Inmates don't like child molesters. They will take care of it.
Roxane Bidlack April 3, 2014 at 10:41 am
Yes, it is disgusting that people enjoy watching little children being forced into sexual activity,Read More but even worse are the people who produce these videos and pictures....' These are real children and they are being destroyed by the depraved. Of course, there would be no need for child pornography if there was no demand for child pornography. It's just a vicious, evil cycle. Simply tragic.
Joe Malichio April 4, 2014 at 10:55 am
On October 8th, 2009... he should've been locked up for life. Sexual misconduct with a TWELVE YEARRead More OLD BOY. Game over. Our justice system is a joke. It's too bad for our children that people like me aren't in charge.

If the Board asked for a investigation and the findings are what is in the above statements why isRead More this member Young still in the membership and how does the Village of Tarrytown allow him to respond to taxpayers homes . He needs to be removed reading the above report before history repeats itself. VERY DISTURBING
ron walsh April 1, 2014 at 09:07 am
I also suggest that [the defendant] not be reinstated, as he appears to be unable to control hisRead More behavior despite repeated reprimands.

Looks like another civil rights violation, force fed into law by executive action, instead ofRead More legislative debate "for the public's safety." Sounds a lot like the justification for NSA spying that no one seems too concerned about, anymore...
DG March 6, 2014 at 02:02 pm
if cops are going to have our personal digital life history at their fingertips, we should also haveRead More access to their personnel files, including complaints like, false arrests, departmental disciplinary actions and proceedings, psychological profiles, and driving and arrest histories. After all, no information is sacred anymore.

OK Paula. Good point in response to my post of March 1. So, I place the following addition to myRead More comment: "Oh poor Kerry. Poor, poor Kerry. Because she has more money than the common transgressor, her name got into the paper. Good, and double good for her. Paula: chill out, before you make yourself sick. This transmission is both "Over" and "Out".

Ask yourselves if this was you and a jury of your peers acquitted you , how and what would you beRead More posting now ? She had a great Attorney and a creative / unusual Defense which the Jury agreed with so case closed . As to names being printed in the Papers , I think everyone's name should be printed as they are potentially a danger to Society . Embarrassement can be a great motivator . Years ago the Media did print names and I was humiliated being one .

Kennedy's have a knack for beating the laws Now death is another story.
Carolyn Adams February 28, 2014 at 07:12 am
Maybe this will affect you when someone breaks into your home and steals your valuables in order toRead More buy drugs. When something is labeled an epidemic it means that it impacts society as a whole not just the individuals who 'choose' to do drugs. I certainly don't have the answers and didn't participate in the Town Hall, but if all it did was educate people about the issue, then it's a start. At least we're not burying our heads in the sand.
Carolyn Adams February 28, 2014 at 07:24 am
And I'll be real curious to see what Hollywood's reaction is to this problem vis a vis the Oscars.Read More Having lost 2 of their own to heroin overdoses in the past year, I would love to see them be proactive in taking a stand on this topic. But I doubt they will.
jo February 28, 2014 at 07:25 am
education about the "evils" of drugs has been around forever.. if folks don't get it byRead More now, I have no hope they ever will.. take the drugs ..suffer the consequences ..

Is it possible to rape a call girl ?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) February 28, 2014 at 08:52 am
Read the DA's description of the second attack and you'll see: When the victim told the defendantRead More that she would not have sex with him without a condom, the defendant attacked her, punching her in the head and then pressing a knife to her neck telling her that he would kill her if did not comply with what he wanted. A struggle ensued and the defendant choked her leaving serious bruise marks to the side of her neck. The defendant then threatened the victim with a handgun and sexually assaulted her.

Not generally a supporter but both are very small tablets and could easily be confused - has anyoneRead More ever picked up the wrong bottle for moisturizer - or wrong tube when looking for toothpaste during their morning routine. Ambien is an amnesiac, you have no idea what you are doing if you get out of bed after having taken it.
Guarags30 February 27, 2014 at 08:02 am
That didnt take long... She already is playing the Kennedy card. I guess they just feel they can doRead More whatever it is they want. Like cheat on your wife (most of the Kennedy men), or kill people in car accidents and drive away (Teddy) or the numerous other things they get away with. PatchRat, I don't believe it is the function of journalists to speculate or conjecture (as you haveRead More done). I for one appreciate that Ms. Tarr is keeping us apprised of the FACTS in this unfortunate tragedy. Prayers to the family and friends of this young man.
