Astorino Congratulates County's Section 1 Basketball State Champs

Westchester has three basketball teams who won their Section 1 state championship this year. I got to personally congratulate them earlier this week.

The road to the state championships goes through the County Center.  That is why I congratulated all three Section 1 teams from Westchester for their state title wins at a ceremony there earlier this week.

Winning a state championship is a mark of great success for these players.  But it is also a testament to our schools, talented coaches and dedicated parents.  Westchester County is proud of them and the team effort that went into making their seasons so remarkable.

About our champs:

For the third year in a row, the Irvington Lady Bulldogs, led by Coach Gina Maher, took the state championship.  They beat South Jefferson 69-42 to win the Class B title.

The Mount Vernon Knights, led by Coach Bob Cimino, took the Class AA championship for the second straight year by edging out the Rochester Acquinas 61-57.

Bringing the title home for the first time since 1981, the Tuckahoe Tigers, led by Coach Al Visconti, defeated Buffalo Middle College 77-66.  The Tigers win capped off a 25-0 undefeated season.
