If you like the idea of spending the day outdoors looking for bald eagles soaring above the Hudson River, Saturday's 10th annual EagleFest is for you.
In celebration of the 150-plus bald eagles who spend the winter along the Hudson Valley waterways, a slew of events are slated to take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson. They will be centered around eagle shows and bird walks, and many of them are for children.
Teatown Lake Reservation hosts the event, and more than 30 environmental groups are participating. Nine additional viewing sites—complete with heated tents and hot cocoa—are open to guests at no additional charge (donations will be accepted). They are:
- Croton Boat Ramp at Croton-Harmon Train Station; sponsored by Saw Mill River Audubon
- Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison; with spotters from Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary
- George’s Island Park in Montrose; sponsored by Saw Mill River Audubon
- Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy Hollow; details here
- New Croton Dam; sponsored by Bedford Audubon Society
- Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill
- Rockwood Hall in Sleepy Hollow; sponsored by Rockefeller State Park
- Steamboat River Park in Verplanck; sponsored by the Town of Cortlandt
- Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain
