Ossining's Bicentennial Continues on Saturday, July 20 with "A Double Celebration" on the Aqueduct Bridge

The Ossining Bicentennial Committee and the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct announce a festive celebration to commemorate the completion of the Double Arch Bridge and Aqueduct tunnel repair and restoration. The party, taking place Saturday, July 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, will feature live music by the KJ Denhert Band, just back from a tour in Europe, and an exhibit of both historic and up-to-the-minute photos of the work done on the bridge and Weir Chamber.

The completion of this important project ties in with the Ossining Bicentennial to make this a Double Celebration. State Park Commissioner Rose Harvey will discuss the importance of the two events.

A Double Arch cake will be served with Croton Cocktails (the same combination of lemon juice-spiked water served to New York City residents in 1842 to celebrate the arrival of Croton Water). There will be guided tours inside the Aqueduct tunnel for all to wonder at the 19th Century engineering miracle that has become a National Historic Landmark.

The public is invited to share in the fun. Free to all. The Double Arch Bridge is between Main Street and Ann Street in the Village of Ossining (rain date: Sunday, July 21).  Call Mavis Cain, 914-693-0529, for more information.

The Village of Ossining’s Bicentennial Celebration is made possible with major support from Ginsburg Development Companies in collaboration with the Ossining Arts Council, Ossining Historical Society and the County of Westchester. Significant additional funding has been provided by General Electric Company, Emigrant Bank, Avalon Bay, Cedar Manor, Inc., Dorsey Funeral Home, Open Door Family Medical Center, Inc., Hudson Valley Bank, The Bethel Methodist Home, Solomon Organization, Arthur J. About the Village of Ossining: On April 2, 1813, the Village of Ossining became the first incorporated village in Westchester County to be state-chartered. Today, Ossining is a culturally diverse, affordable place to live, rich in both history and natural beauty. Approximately 24,000 people reside in the three square miles of this historic Village on the Hudson River, which boasts extensive shopping, recreational programs, educational enrichment opportunities, and community services. Ossining’s role in New York’s heritage has been recognized by its inclusion, as one of only 14 areas, in an Urban Cultural Park System designed to attract visitors to the State. With its Bicentennial anniversary in 2013, the Village of Ossining has launched “Ossining in 3D,” a yearlong celebration of events designed to honor the Village’s past while embracing its future.
