33rd Annual Village Fair Comes to Ossining on June 8th

One of the community’s premier events of the year, the 33rd annual Ossining Village Fair, presented by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce, will return to Ossining’s historic Main Street on Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (rain date: Sunday, June 9th). Highly anticipated by thousands of eager fairgoers who attend each year, the Fair reflects the unique character of the Village of Ossining with a wide range of vendors, food, games, rides and live entertainment.

Held this year in conjunction with the Village’s Bicentennial Celebration, the 33rd annual Ossining Village Fair is expected to draw several thousand people with even more entertainment and exhibitors than previous years, and exciting Bicentennial-themed events. This year, the fair has grown to include over 170 booths and a variety of live acts presented on four entertainment stages. Local pizzerias will strive to impress a celebrity panel of judges as they compete for the title “Best Pizza in Ossining.”  

“Last year over 10,000 fairgoers mingled, listened to music, dined, shopped and enjoyed the day in Historic Downtown Ossining,” said Gayle Marchica, President of the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce. “We expect to surpass that number this year with more vendors, diverse cuisine, and live entertainment. Our Village Fair is a celebration of Ossining’s diversity and culture and truly exemplifies the spirit and energy of our local businesses and wonderful community.”  

Fairgoers are encouraged to stop by at the Ossining Chamber booth right next to the main stage on Main Street to pick up an entertainment schedule, meet the Directors and learn about membership, networking and programming offered.  

Complimentary docent-led walking tours of the 25-piece “Ossining in 3D” bicentennial sculpture exhibit will be available to the public at 10:00 am for those who sign up in advance and at 2:00 pm at the fair. The tours begin at 81 Croton Avenue. Reservations are required for the 10:00 am time and can be made by phone at 914-762-6232 or by email at vmonastra@ossbuilding.org. Subsequent tours will be available by reservation on the first Saturday of each month through October.  

Maps for self-guided tours of the sculpture exhibit will be available at the fair and can also be picked up at the Village of Ossining Municipal Building at the Clerk’s and Village Manager’s office, the Community Center, the Ossining Public Library, and at each sculpture location. Maps are also available online at www.villageofossining.org and www.celebrateossining.com.  

For those interested in Ossining’s historic architecture, a complimentary “Holy Ossining” heritage tour will highlight the history, lore and legends of several of the Village’s 19th century Victorian-era buildings. Led by Norman MacDonald of the Ossining Historical Society, the tour begins at 1:00 pm at the corner of Main Street and South Highland Avenue. Reservations are requested and can be made by phone at 914-941-0001.  

Fairgoers are also invited to stop by the Village’s bicentennial booth where copies of The Ossining Story: A Bicentennial Celebration 1813–2013 will be sold for $10 each. The 160-page special-edition souvenir journal commemorates Ossining’s 200th birthday, honoring the Village’s past and present with stories from more than 60 local organizations and commissioned articles of historic interest from local authors and historians.  

“Ossining has a wonderfully rich history,” says George Camp, chair of the Bicentennial Committee. “The Ossining Story not only highlights our Village’s unique heritage, but also shows what a great community we have as we move forward in the next century."
