Democratic Committee Endorses Victoria Gearity for Ossining Village Mayor

Democrats endorse Trustee Victoria Gearity for Ossining Village Mayor with overwhelming support.

By greater than a two to one margin, last night the Ossining Town Democratic Committee endorsed Village Trustee Victoria Gearity as its 2014 candidate for Ossining Village Mayor.  The Committee’s District Leaders voted overwhelmingly to support Gearity’s vision for the Village, with three over-arching goals:

  1. Smart, sustainable development that honors the history and preserves the character of the Village;
  2. A collaborative and open-door relationship with the people of Ossining and the leadership of the town, schools, businesses and neighboring villages; and
  3. A vibrant, attractive and accessible downtown that grows retail and commercial development.

County Legislator Catherine Borgia commenting on the endorsement said, “As a Village Trustee, Victoria quickly demonstrated the kind of leadership that we need to help move Ossining forward. Her grasp of the key issues, her openness to people, her willingness to discuss all points of view in search of new ideas, combined with her complete dedication to the Village will help us all make Ossining an even greater place to live and work.”

Gearity thanked the Committee for their strong show of support, saying, “I believe Ossining is best served by a mayor who works side by side with parents, seniors, local business owners, and community leaders–everyone with a stake in making Ossining an even better place to live, work and invest.  That is the standard I will hold myself to if elected, and I’m gratified that the Committee shares those ideals.”

Town Supervisor Susanne Donnelly noted that, “Victoria understands and exemplifies the qualities we need–keeping our governments transparent, our residents informed and working together for the entire community.  As we establish inter-municipal agreements and work together to save taxpayer money, I am confident that Victoria’s innovative and forward-thinking leadership will help us all move forward together.”

Former Ossining Mayor Miguel Hernandez also cited Gearity’s collaborative approach, saying, “I support Victoria because of her focus on programs that will bring people into downtown, on projects that start with community input so they can become a reality with community support.”

Gearity expanded on her vision for Ossining, saying, “We need strategic planning that contributes to a balanced growth in our economy—one with new businesses and new jobs, as we see happening in other communities.  We need to honor Ossining’s history with an eye toward a vibrant future for generations to come.

“As parents of a family with two young children, my husband and I understand the need to live within our budget,” Gearity said, “and we expect our government, at every level, to do the same.  I am committed to keeping our taxes in check and reducing the burden on all of us, young and old.”

Gearity’s campaign website (www.VictoriaGearity.com) offers more information on her vision for Ossining; a survey that lets Ossining residents express their views on key issues; and a mailing list to help stay up to date with blog postings, campaign events and more.
