Where/When: Briarcliff Manor Business District (Pleasantville Road) on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Why go: The Briarcliff Manor Chamber of Commerce is continuing its First Thursday Night Lights series with a spotlight on local artists. In addition to the usual offers, discounts, samples and kids activities, shops along Pleasantville Road will be showcasing artists. At , James Grabowski will give a painting demonstration; at , painter and woods craftsman Gary DiMeo's work will be on display; and at Boutique, watercolors by Karen St. Vil can be viewed. The Smurfs Under the Stars

Where/When:  in Valhalla on Friday, August 3 at 8 p.m.

Why go: Gather the family and pack some blankets and chairs for a picnic on the lawn—the Lippolis Electric Movie under the Stars showing of the animated family film The Smurfs (PG, 2011) will take place rain or shine. The movie, which will be shown in standard format (not 3-D), tells the story of the tiny blue Smurfs who get chased out of their magical world and into New York City by the evil wizard Gargamel.

Price: Admission and parking are free

Where/When: Mount Pleasant Town Hall (1 Town Hall Plz., third floor) on Thursday, Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Why go: The Mount Pleasant Historical Society is offering a presentation about the "Not Forgotten History of the Korean War" for all town residents. Stop by and meet presenter John O'Loughlin.

Open Craft Day

Where/When: on Friday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go: Kids of all ages are invited to stop by the library each Friday to complete a craft with all materials provided by the library. All children under the age of six must have an adult helper.

Ghostbusters

Where/When: on Saturday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 12 p.m.

Why go: JBFC's series of "Movies for Kids (and their Families)" continues this weekend with the 1984 Ivan Reitman classic, Ghostbusters (PG, 105 min.). Bring the family to the wacky scientists join Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis on a ghost-catching adventure.

Pricing: $11 adult nonmembers, $6 adult members, $6.50 children
