Ossining Words & Music Series

Alan Marzelli, curator of the Words & Music concert series at the Ossining Public Library, has announced the line-up for Fall 2012 that will include performances by Guy Davis, Tabitha Fair, and KJ Denhert. Presented by the Ossining Library Foundation, the Words & Music series brings well known singer-songwriters and recording artists to the Library’s 200 seat Budarz Theater for free Sunday afternoon concerts. All performances begin at 2pm. Doors open at 1:30 and seating is on a first come, first served basis. The Ossining Public Library is located at 53 Croton Avenue in Ossining. Sunday, September 23: Guy Davis

He's a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. But most importantly, Guy Davis is a bluesman. The blues permeates every corner of Davis' creativity. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues and bringing them to as many ears as possible through the material of the great blues masters, African American stories, and his own original songs, stories and performance pieces. Davis, the son of actorswriters Ruby Dee and the late Ossie Davis, has recorded nine studio albums on Red House records and appeared as a guest artist on numerous albums, videos, films and television shows.

Sunday October 19: Tabitha Fair

Tabitha gave the Budarz theater audience a preview of her amazing vocal talents as she joined Willie Nile on stage for two songs in May. Come October, Tabitha will return to the Budarz Theater stage with her band comprised of some of New York City’s finest musicians for a performance that you won’t soon forget. Heavily influenced by her Gospel roots as the result of growing up singing in her father’s church in Oklahoma, Tabitha recorded her own Gospel album at the age of 15, co-founded the best-selling Christian contemporary group Avalon, written and recorded with Carole King, and performed at both President Clinton’s and President Obama’s inauguration. She has performed with a wide range of artists, from Amy Grant to Beyoncé to Sting, to name a few.

Sunday, November 18: KJ Denhert

Ossining resident KJ Denhert returns to the Budarz theater with her band for an encore performance after she and her 6 piece ensemble rocked the Budarz theater in November 2011. KJ blends urban folk & jazz to create a unique sound that has earned her four Independent Music Award nominations and recognition as one of the top female vocalists by Jazz.com. KJ’s Album No. 9 won the 2011 Independent Music Award in the category Sing Out For Social Action, and her song Choose Your Weapon won the John Lennon Songwriting contest in the World category in 2012.
