Hudson Valley Summer Swimming Destinations

Looking for spots to take a cool dip after some fun in the sun? 

Here’s our list of beaches and swimming destinations that are accessible from the Hudson Valley:

Croton Point Park Beach – Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson; (914) 862-5290; parking is $5 with park pass and $10 without; no additional fee for swimming; open seven days a week, 8 a.m. until dusk.

Glen Island Beach – Pelham Road, New Rochelle; (914) 813-6720; parking is $5; a Westchester County Park Pass is required for admission; Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

Playland Beach - 100 Playland Parkway, Rye (914) 813-7010; a beach pass costs $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens (weekday); $3 for children 5 to 11-years-old; twilight swimming from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. is free;  click here for hours and parking information.

Orchard Public Beach and Promenade – Orchard Beach Road, Bronx at Pelham Bay Park; (718) 885-2275; parking $7 weekdays, $9 weekends; no additional fee for swimming; open seven days from 10 a.m. to 6 pm.

 

Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk - Beach 9th Street to Far Rockaway, to Beach 149th Street, in Neponsit, Queens (click herefor beach service changes due to Hurricane Sandy); (718) 318-4000; there is free parking in lots B. 11th to B 15th Street and B. 95th Street; there is no additional charge for swimming; open seven days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; click here for details.

 

Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park (Canopus Beach) -1498 Route 301, Carmel; (845) 225-7207; seven days a week until Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; parking $7 per car; beach access is free.

 

Harbor Island Park – Mamaroneck Avenue and Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck; (914) 777-7784; parking is $6 during the week and $8 on weekends and holidays; beach entrance is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12-years-old and free for children under 3; open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., parking is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Lake Welch Beach at Harriman State Park - 800 Kanawaukee Road

Stony Point; (845) 947-2444; weekdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; $8 per car to park; no additional cost to swim

 

Lake Tiorati Beach in Harriman State Park - Palisades Interstate Park Commission in Bear Mountain; weekdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; $8 per car to park; no additional cost to swim
