Gearing Up for Tomorrow's Basketball Tournament

With the support of Westchester County, the Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s Barrier Breakers will compete in the annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, April 17 at the Westchester County Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The players will square off against their Westchester rivals, the Wildcats from The Westchester School for Special Children.

This annual event is made possible with the help of the county. The Office for the Disabled has helped coordinate it, while the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation has provided the arena.

“We are delighted to give our support to this fabulous event,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “These kids are outstanding athletes, and their enthusiasm is contagious. Through a program like this, they get the opportunity to enjoy the spirit of competition.”

Cerebral Palsy of Westchester is a non- profit organization that provides essential educational services, vocational training, recreation, rehabilitation and advocacy to thousands of children and adults in Westchester County. 

Its wheelchair basketball team, known as The Barrier Breakers, is open to children with disabilities between the ages of 10 and 21. Its adult team is open to adults 21 and older, who reside in Westchester County.
