UFSD's Effort to Go Paperless

The Ossining Union Free School District is working on making their external communications completely paperless by January 2012.

For decades we’ve been hearing about this fabled “paperless society.” Amazingly the idea is coming to bear fruit in our area. The has a goal to go paperless by 2012 when it comes to their external communications. The District says that newsletters have been responsible for the bulk of their paper usage for years. To help curb paper use, the high school started an effort to put out paperless newsletters. “ implemented a paperless system about two years ago and reduced their hard copies of correspondence from 1,300 to about 380,” said Deputy Superintendent, Raymond Sanchez. “This is an extremely significant reduction and we are hoping the District overall can follow in the high school's footsteps.”

The district also scans in internal memos and sends them via email, instead of photocopying them. The move is part of the District’s Sustainability Policy, which was adopted by the School District’s Board in September 2010.

The District is asking all parents to sign up for their email newsletter O-Blasts. The blasts contain up to date District information. You can sign up for them at OssiningUFSD.org by clicking on the O-Blast link. “Parents have been responding extremely well to our paperless efforts. Our O-Blast contact list has been increasing each and every day with new parents and community members signing up,” said Sanchez.
