OPINION: Voting in Favor of Ossining's Bond Proposal

Ossining resident Melissa Shandroff writes about why you should vote for the Ossining bond referendum in her letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

As a parent in the Ossining School District, I have been closely following the developments regarding the upcoming bond vote. I attended numerous board meetings and would like to commend the administration and Board of Education for listening to the community and presenting a fiscally responsible bond that will not raise our taxes.

This bond addresses the very basics to ensure that critical infrastructure needs are met. When I think about what this bond will bring to our community, I think of my daughter being able to find her way out of the school because of properly upgraded emergency lighting. I think of the energy savings we will see once new boiler systems are installed. I also think of students being able to safely sit in an auditorium where they attend class, or in a library that does not leak water with every rainstorm. I think about the importance of a school and community working together to ensure we upgrade and maintain one of our most important assets.

If you could not attend one of the many meetings held over the past few months, the district has great information on their website. Please educate yourself about what this bond means to our students and our community. I hope that once you do, you will join me and vote yes on Tuesday, March 6th.

Sincerely,

Melissa Shandroff
