As Winds Damage Roof, Early Dismissal for AMD Students in Ossining [Updated]

Update: Interim Superintedent Raymond Sanchez this afternoon, "A roof consultant advised us that he is able to begin working on the roof immediately. However, his ability to work on the roof will be contingent upon the weather."

Sanchez said local police helped safely expedite the early dismissal process today.

Said Sanchez, "The roof had previously been compromised during Hurricane Sandy. Because of this, we had already proposed including the roof repair in Phase I of the bond.

Today, we have been in touch with the New York State Education Department to seek their assistance in expediting their approval to repair and/or replace this section of the roof. They agreed to consider expediting the approval process. We will continue to monitor the situation. We remain hopeful that this will not impact the opening of school tomorrow."

Update: "Walkers will be bused to Claremont and then immediately dismissed from Claremont School."

From the Ossining Union Free School District:

Due to high winds two AMD roof vent units are lifting from a section of the AMD roof and creating safety issues.

We will be dismissing all middle school students at 11:40am. Walkers will be bused to Claremont and dismissed from that location.

We are currently in the process of having a roofer determine the long term implications.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide you with additional information about our next steps including whether AMD will be open tomorrow.

All AMD after school activities are canceled.
