Ossining blanked Pleasantville 3-0. The Pride dominated possession and were strategic in their half-field sets. Walter Bejarano, Abdul Byabusha and Joakim Lind each popped goals to pace Ossining, which was bolstered by three saves that preserved the shutout.

Football

There are some major challenges cooking on the front burner of Croton and Ossining's football teams. Croton, the undefeated favorite, is penciled in as the favorite to repeat. Croton quarterback Jesse Mainero has been playing in a different area code lately. Following the righteous steps of his older brother Nick, Mainero fired in a game-high six touchdowns against Westlake last week. Croton has a high-flying aerial game that dissected many Class B team's this week.

Under Dan Ricci, the former Ossining star QB, the Pride have paved their way back to familiar playoff territory. The Pride hosts Gorton tonight at 6 p.m. in the Section 1/Class A quarterfinal

Alumni Corner

Looking a bit ahead, Nov. 15 will likely be a battle between two former Section 1 stallions. Central Connecticut State, featuring reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year Kenny Horton, hosts Yale University. The Bulldogs reeled in a highly sought after product on the recruiting market in 6-foot-6 forward Matt Townsend of Chappaqua.

A wunderkind who’s glass work (top rebounder under Dave Fernandes during his four years at Horace Greeley H.S.) has mirrored his class work (Townsend was the valedictorian at Horace Greeley, sporting a 4.0 GPA and cruising through a thick load of AP courses), Townsend is expected to play meaningful minutes from the jump.

Horton, who averaged 19.5 points to pace the Blue Devils last season, is a fifth-year senior. He redshirted his junior year due to a season-ending injury.

The two never met on the hardwood in a Section 1 game, as Horton was a senior while Townsend was still getting his baller’s teeth cut in eighth grade. The game is part of the annual Connecticut 6 Classic, which is held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
