Uh, No I'm Not Pregnant But Thanks For Asking

Ever been asked a question you wish you hadn't?

Why is it that some people who don't know you at all insist on asking stupid questions like..."When are you due?" And of course you are not pregnant!

I went to the supermarket this morning and as I am checking out the cashier asks me, "Why don't you shop on Tuesdays?" I curiously ask, "Why is Tuesday a good day to shop?" The cashier responds, "Because Tuesdays you can get a senior discount!"

Now if this conversation were taking place one day many, many, many, many years in the future I would have jumped for joy to learn of a new way to save money. But considering I am only 46 years old....and you need to be 60 to get the senior discount...the only thing I am jumping for...or from...is out the nearest window.

Yeesh people...think before you speak! There's a very good reason the saying "Open mouth insert foot" was coined. It was coined for you. On my way to B.J.'s now for among other things, beer...Praying the cashier there asks me for proof that I am 21.  Now that would make my day. : )

I had the opposite happen to me. Recently my son & I shopped at Trader Joes in Larchmont and I decided to purchase some specialty beer for my husband, when I checked out the woman (who was older) asked for my I.D. I laughed and thought she was kidding, she wasn't and insisted to see some I.D. it made my day and I thanked her for the compliment!

I have asked the pregnant question, but it was because the person was "glowing". They, of course, thought I was using that as a terrible cover so I was in trouble anyway.

Totally get the whole innocently walking into trouble scenario! Usually for me it's not asking a question but when I try to make a joke... Problem is I'm not as funny as I'd like to believe and it just falls flat! Matter of fact I just did the whole trying to be funny thing this past weekend at my son's baseball game... Surprise surprise the silent response to my joke was deafening ... My husband so embarrassed he begged me to fake laryngitis the next time someone speaks to me...
