New Leadership For Ossining

Victoria Gearity may be just what Ossining needs!

They say power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I don’t say this lightly, but I do say it absolutely: Ossining is headed in the wrong direction, and we need new leadership to change course. Looking around at our local economy and businesses, if the fish rots from the head down, then I can’t imagine what’s going on in our mayor’s office.

That change might come from Trustee Victoria Gearity, who has just announced that she will challenge Bill Hanauer for mayor. Hanauer has occupied the mayor’s office for the past eight years, during which time he has achieved no discernable accomplishments in revitalizing the local economy or bringing all of his constituents to the decision-making table.

In reality, most of Hanauer’s so-called accomplishments as mayor have constituted ribbon-cuttings and other ceremonial photo opportunities that have not increased transparency or economic activity in the village. In fact, his reaction to news that he would be challenged was par for the course: arrogant, pompous, entitled. That’s not progress, it’s politics as usual.

We haven’t seen much yet from Gearity, but she might be just what Ossining needs. Hopefully her campaign will prove that to be true.
