The owners of the Acadia Realty, bought the 36-acre lot from Westrock Development, the developer that was considering selling it to Walmart. The current Walmart in the CTC will stay where it is and Acadia will build something smaller on the property it now owns, Puglisi said. Westrock had owned the property for more than six years and was originally planning to open a shopping mall before its now-canceled Walmart plans.
“We have a partner in community that will work with us and not put something too large in that site and that will hear ideas of what we’d like to see there,” Puglisi said. The Town Supervisor suggests putting a trolley there that will take people around the parking lot at the CTC so shoppers can park in one spot and have transportation to all the stores in the large shopping center.
Puglisi was at first hesitant but to a Walmart Supercenter moving in, stating that she had concerns over traffic, size and the fact that the property would have had to be rezoned because it was half commercial and half residential. The Town Board was also generally opposed to the supercenter plans.
