Village of Ossining police confirmed that the teacher their department arrested in July – on the very day he was meant to be married – has pled guilty to charges of raping a 16-year-old student.
John Azabache, 31 of Port Chester, an Ossining High School teacher who since his arrest has been banned from school grounds, “pled guilty to rape in the third in County Court,” Lt. William Sullivan said. “His sentencing is October 10.”
Azabache's lawyer Tony Castro in an interview with Lohud.com said that his client had apologized to the people affected for a sexual act that was allegedly not forced. Even if the sex is consensual, it's legally considered rape with someone under the age of 17. Azabache admitted to one instance of having sex with the underage teen after being accused of two.
He would be registered as a sex offender, serve 10 years probation, and clearly never teach again. Castro told Lohud that Azabache would now struggle to “reinvent” himself, likely by working with computers.
