Ossining Hits the Polls

Ossining residents are talking about the issues that are important to them as they head out to vote.

People in Ossining are heading out to the polls this afternoon. The amount of voter traffic has decreased since this morning, but poll workers say it will pick up later tonight.

Poll workers at Maryknoll Sisters said voters were pretty sparse this afternoon. "It will pick up possibly a little before supper," said Ossining resident and Maryknoll Sister Anne Correale. "So far we've had 96 people vote—that's not bad. A lot of voters are working in offices right now. So there could be a little more than 100 by the time the evening is over."

At Ossining Fire Headquarters on State Street there was a steady flow of voters. "We've been kind of busy between 10 and 12," said poll volunteer Sarah Galeano.

Patch asked voters at the fire headquarters, what issue was most important to them as they got ready to vote? "I'm voting for somebody who's going to cut the budget and stop these part-time people from getting all these pensions," said Ossining resident Haddi Stanley.

"What I want to do is get somebody in that's going to fix Ossining," said lifelong resident Catherine Culp. "Ossining is not as it should be. I go to Tarrytown—I go to Peekskill—and they're both set up nice, with people sitting out and enjoying the day. I want to see that for Ossining. I've been here all my life."
