Ossining-Briarcliff Sign of Progress

A new sign has been installed to drive traffic to the North State Road business district. The sign says, "Welcome to the Town of Ossining business district." It also displays an arrow that reads "North State Road."

The new sign, placed at the corner of Chappaqua and North State Road, was the idea of the Briarcliff Manor and Ossining chambers of commerce. Town of Ossining Supervisor Sue Donnelly says that this is the first new sign, which will work to drive traffic to local businesses.

"At the end of the town line there will be another sign," said Donnelly. "We're working in conjunction with New Castle, which is the intersection of 100 and North State Road, to put another sign down there. We're waiting for their response to that."

Presidents from two Chambers of Commerce were at the intersection today as the new sign was installed.

"What this means for us is that we are now identifying another corridor for both chambers of commerce—for commercial businesses to get people to come down here," said Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce President Gayle Marchica. "We want to attract foot traffic to the restaurants here and attract other businesses to come here… and kind of make it it's own town in and of itself."

Briarcliff Manor's chamber president, who owns a business on North State Road, says he is also happy to see the new sign go up.

"Today, for me, this is kind of a crown on this street," said Briarcliff Chamber of Commerce President Eric Messer. "We have hundreds of businesses on North State Road. We have six or seven restaurants on North State Road. So getting people to get off 9A and get off of 100 and drive down North State Road has been the goal of this campaign, which is probably a year-and-a-half in the making."
