Ossining Boat Club Given Temporary Access to Make Building Repairs

The padlocks came off -- shortly -- at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club and the town and the boat club members are at least talking. The members have been granted temporary access in order make the necessary repairs to get them up to code but when they leave, the padlocks go back on.

Ossining Supervisor Susanne Donnelly, fresh off her assumed (though unofficial, as the write-in votes for contestant Don DeBar have not been counted) win for another term, thanked the community for her support in her latest web update and also offered the status of things at the waterfront.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support. It is an honor to work for you. This is your community and this Board’s responsibility is to ensure that we are responsive to the entire Ossining Community.

She then lists off her municipal goals she shared with Patch here, with includes everything from working with the budget, collaborating with the villages and the school district, to completing the feasibility study of the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club as planned.

What we won’t participate in is SPIN.

SPIN is a form of propaganda, achieved through providing an interpretation of an event or campaign to persuade public opinion in favor or against a certain organization or public figure. While traditional public relations may also rely on creative presentation of the facts, "spin" often implies disingenuousdeceptive and/or highly manipulative tactics.

Our commitment to the residents and the commercial property owners/businesses in Ossining is to always be up front and direct concerning the different projects we are working on.  We have posted, and will continue to post, all relevant reports on the Town Web page.

The next town hall meeting is Nov. 19 at the Ossining Public Library at 7:30 p.m. More information on this and other matters can be found in Donnelly’s latest update.

Members of OBCC said they were eager to get in to do the work they'd been unable to do if they were locked out. But they also urge citizens to come speak out on the issue of the boat club's future, as, said Trustee Meaddows Ryan, there's still a long way to go.

Writes Ryan, "OBCC agreed to make all necessary repairs to remedy permit issues and is working under a collaborative agreement with the Town Supervisor to regain full access to the building. We expect this process of securing licensed contractors and inspections to take about a month."
