Croton Man Inducted into Veteran's Hall of Fame

Senator Greg Ball, Chairman of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee,  honored  Croton-on-Hudson resident, Eugene Parrotta, at the annual New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame event in Albany, NY.

Parrotta, who was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fourth Class from the U.S. Army, is a recipient of the Purple Heart with Oak Cluster for his service in Vietnam and currently chairs Senator Ball’s Veteran’s Advisory Council.

“I am honored to nominate Mr. Parrotta into the New York State Veteran’s Hall of Fame. Every day, Eugene works tirelessly to help veterans in our community.  From responding to constituent calls in my office, to visiting veterans and making sure they have access to medical care, housing or even a friend to talk to, Eugene is there. America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of our veterans like Eugene.”

Parrotta was born on January 17, 1947 and is a retired member of Laborers Local 79 in New York City. Parrotta volunteers his time as the Chairman of the Veterans Advocacy Council (VAC) at the Montrose FDR VA Campus and the Castle Point VA Campus. Recently, Parrotta secured 23 affordable veterans only housing units at the new Round Top housing complex in Montrose.

“The debt we owe to those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedoms cannot be overstated,” said Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “It is an honor to recognize Eugene Parrotta, who not only served our country with great distinction, but also continues to support veterans throughout our community.”  

Parrotta is the second among three consecutive family generations to see combat as a member of the United State military. Parrotta’s father was wounded during World War II, and his son is in his sixteenth year of service as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Additionally, Parrotta’s grandson is enlisting in the military.

“Every once in a long while something happens in our lives that is a defining moment; one we know we‘ll always remember, said Mr. Parrotta. “Receiving the State Veteran’s Hall of Fame award was that for me.  It was an honor to serve with the men and women of the United States Army and it is an honor to now serve with Senator Greg Ball. I will continue working to maintain the high standard he has set for service to our Veterans.”

 “I am thrilled that we are honoring Gene, not only for his distinguished service, while serving in the Republic of Vietnam, but for his continued service to our veterans at home. Gene has dedicated himself to the service of his fellow veterans, and there is no more noble pursuit than that.” Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli (R, C – Goldens Bridge) said. “As a fellow Vietnam veteran, I thank him for his service, and salute him for his continued commitment to all our brother and sister veterans.”

“I’m very pleased that our very own Eugene Parotta of the Village of Croton-on-Hudson/Town of Cortlandt has been selected to be a state wide nominee for the NY State Veteran’s Hall of Fame, said Linda Puglisi, Supervisor, Town of Cortlandt. “Eugene is a wonderful advocate for all Veterans and assists those who use our very important V.A. Hospital facility in the hamlet of Montrose/Town of Cortlandt.  Congratulations to Eugene Parotta.”
