County Backyard Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale

As a member of the county's Environment and Energy committee, I am always looking for ways to increase my own sustainability and for helpful tips for my constituents.

The Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities does many things to encourage recycling – including promoting composting. Do you already compost or are you looking to begin? Then get yourself a compost bin.

Groundwork Hudson Valley and Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium are sponsoring a compost bin and rain barrel sale at various dates and places. Products must be pre-ordered.

Sunday, May 20, 2012:

  • 10am-1pm at Sarah Lawrence College, Andrews Parking Lot at the intersection of Kimball Avenue  and Glen Washington Road, Yonkers
  • 2:30-5 p.m. at Irvington Library Parking Lot, 12 S. Astor Street, Irvington

Saturday, June 9, 2012:

  • 9-11:30 a.m. Eastchester Town Hall parking lot, 40 Mill Road, Eastchester
  • 1-4 p.m. and at Greenburgh Nature Center, 99 Dromore Road, Scarsdale

Products must be pre-ordered by May 16 for pick-up on May 20 and by June 6 for pick-up on June 9. The high-quality bins from Earth Machine are $55 (retail $145) and sturdy rain barrels from Systern are $75 (retail $125).

You can reserve a bin or barrel online at: http://compostbinandrainbarrel2012.eventbrite.com/
