Shooting at Dunbar Heights

Police say shots were fired at the affordable housing development off Highland Avenue on March 8.

Gun shots were fired at the upper lot of Dunbar Heights in Peekskill around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, March 8,Lieutenant Eric Johansen said today.

“Unknown perpetrators fired numerous rounds from a 380 semi automatic pistol at subjects who were in the area and to date have failed to come forward and identify themselves. We have located one parked vehicle, that was struck in the tail light by one of the rounds,” reads a flyer that police distributed at Dunbar on March 9.

“No victim has come forward. We do have some suspects, but very little cooperation at this time from the public,” Johansen said.

The police department received several calls immediately after the shooting and responded several minutes after it occurred, Johansen said. They found evidence of multiple shots fired.

The following day police officers delivered flyers (quoted above) door-to-door at Dunbar. The flyers explained what police knew of the incident, asked residents to talk to police about the incident and ensured confidentiality.

“We’re doing all that is possible to identify the person(s) responsible for this cowardly and potentially deadly act and need the assistance of the people who live in Dunbar Heights and whose lives were placed in peril if we are to be successful,” the flyer states.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get a lot of feedback. The investigation is severely hindered by fact we don’t have victims,” Johansen said.

Johansen would not comment on how many people the police believe were involved or on any other details as the investigation is still open.

If you have any information regarding this crime, the police urge you to call them immediately at 914-737-8000. “All information will be handled discreetly and confidentially and your assistance may make the difference in saving a life,” the flyer states.

Why are we only hearing about this now? When shots are fired, I'd like to hear about it relatively soon thereafter, not 5 days later. Was it because Sandy Allen brought it up at the council meeting last night and they could no longer cover it up? We have an armed psychotic on the loose and the Peekskill PD doesn't want us to know.

Spruce isn't it obvious. The City Government has suppressed the free press and sent the reporters to a gulag in Dutchess County where they work as slave labor in a computer factory hidden under the fairgrounds.
