Police: Series of Line Breaks at Croton's Elementary School

Sandwiched between two gas main breaks at the Carrie E. Tompkins elementary from contractors, came a call for a broken water main, marking a bad streak for the renovation work going on the school.

The Northeast Landscape & Masonry company apparently struck a waterline in the rear of the school while doing work on August 16 at 8:58 a.m. The water had to be shut down to surrounding streets until the line was fixed. The village put out an alert later that day that while water had been restored to the homes who went without for some hours, citizens might now experience brown water at the tap.

At 2:30 p.m. on August 9, the Croton fire department and police responded to a main line break at the school after a contractor doing work here struck the line. Multiple homes were evacuated until the gas levels were deemed safe.

On August 17, emergency responders came for the same at 1:25 p.m. Again, police and fire volunteers worked to evacuate nearby homes, and Con Ed was contacted to shut the gas off. By 2:19 p.m., the situation was considered under control, with roads reopened and people allowed to return to their homes on the block.
