A couple came into Croton village police headquarters Dec. 8 to report that the woman's backpack-style leather bag had been stolen while they were at a holiday party on Birch Court.
The victim's husband told police that the cell phone in the bag was emitting a GPS signal in the vicinity of 70-90 Maple St. They were allowed to use a computer at HQ and confirmed that the GPS still showed the phone there. Police sent an officer to the area while the victim activated an alert on the phone—which the officer found in the roadway.
The victim also reported new charges on credit cards that were in the bag, several in Croton and one in Ossining.
After investigation, on Dec. 13 police charged Christopher J. Lepore, of 80 Spring St. in Ossining, with fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal posession of stolen property, both felonies.
Arrests do not indicate convictions.
Lepore was arraigned before Judge Watkins, sent to Westchester County Jail on $1,500 bail and is due back in Village Court Dec. 19.
Lepore had apparently been a guest at the party, said Det. Sgt. John Nikotopoulous. More charges are pending.
