Ossining's Finest Prevent Car Arson

Ossining Police extinguished a car fire before it spread to the entire vehicle.

got a call about a possible car fire at 1 a.m. near 19 Martin Road. When Officers Meudt and Donohue pulled up to the scene, they saw flames coming out of a gray 2010 Nissan's gas tank. The officers immediately put out the flames with their fire extinguisher. The officers then called the Ossining Fire Department.

Officers Meudt and Donohue noticed that there was burnt cloth coming out of the car's tank. They also saw that the vehicle's gas cap was lying on the pavement.

A witness told officers that a man wearing a black shirt and tan shorts sprayed some type of fluid near the car and then took off down Martin Rd. The witness said the fire started after the man sprayed the fluid near the gray Nissan.

Officer Joseph Bracero spotted a man that seemed to fit the description near Edward St. and . The man was identified as 18-year-old Jorge Morales. Ossining Police took the Yonkers man to police headquarters, where Detective Farrell questioned him and evidence was gathered.

Two days later, on August 25, police arrested Morales. He was arraigned and his bail was set by the Ossining Town Court at $50,000. The Yonkers man is currently being held in the Westchester County Jail.
