Manhattan Motorcyclist Killed in Croton Bus Smash-up

A motorcycle and a county bus collided on North Riverside Avenue in Croton-on-Hudson at about 8 p.m. July 24, killing the motorcyclist instantly.

State police said Charles Golding, 34, of Manhattan, was exiting onto North Riverside Avenue from Route 9 at Senasqua Road.

It appears that he lost control of the motorcycle and traveled onto North Riverside Avenue directly in front of a Bee-Line bus that was traveling southbound on North Riverside, police said.

The bus was a Route 14 bus en route to White Plains with 10 passengers aboard.

A witness told The Journal News that the bike "just exploded" when the two vehicles collided.

Two of the bus passengers were transported to hospitals—one with a symptoms of an asthma or anxiety attack, one with a back  injury. Neither was considered serious, police said.

A full accident investigation and reconstruction is underway by Westchester County Police. Preliminary findings indicate that speed was a factor in the motorcycle driver losing control and driving into the path of the bus.

The bus driver, who showed no indications of any drug or alcohol involvement, was interviewed at the scene by county police. No charges have been filed against the bus driver, police said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct toxicology tests to determine if there was any drug or alcohol involvement on the part of the motorcycle operator, police said.
