Man in Mask, Robes Spooks Croton Voters

Election day went off without a hitch in Croton-on-Hudson – save for the man who alarmed voters in his robe and mask.

Croton Police report that they arrested a 57-year-old Croton man after receiving a complaint on Nov. 5 that a man was in the voting area at the municipal building at One Van Wyck Street “alarming voters,” said Detective Paul Camillieri.

The man was apparently wearing a black judge’s robe and a mask of an old man's face attached to a baseball cap.

After someone called police, “the disturbance continued,” Camillieri said, joking that maybe the man thought it was still Halloween but more likely it was just the drugs in action.

The man didn’t seem to be targeting anything to do with elections or any candidates. Rather, “we believe he was under the influence of cocaine,” Camillieri said.

Police found on him a small bag of white powder, alleged to be cocaine.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, an A-misdemeanor, and two counts of disorderly conduct, a violation.

Bail was set for $10,000 and the man was taken to Westchester County Jail.

Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
