Police: Journal News Employee Harassed

This report was derived from information from the Irvington Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

An Irvington resident, who works for The Journal News, called police twice on Dec. 26 to report that he received several unwanted phone calls.

He believes he is being targeted because of an article published in The Journal News that had an interactive map showing the names and addresses of handgun permit holders in Westchester and Rockland Counties.

The story sparked outrage, controversy and discussion over free speech, privacy, freedom of information and gun control. Name and addresses of employees of The Journal News were posted on Facebook and pro-gun websites.

Following The Journal News’ article, the newspaper had two separate incidents where employees came across packages of suspicious power. Click here for more on that story.

Unless this guy is an Editor in Chief he has no decision making ability over there- The target should be aimed at the decision makers not the folks who follow orders.

Even if he is the Editor in Chief it still is NOT a reason to harras anyone. I HATE what the Journal news did but it was legal and public information. I do not want my name and address out there but then again I wasn't forced to get a pistol permit so I KNEW it was public info.

One does not need to harras anyone - however directing objections to the decision makers is a way to go for anyone so upset that they ned to vent. But focusing on photogs, sales or circulation folks is just ridiculous as they hold no power and should not be in the position to have to deal with the public.
