Croton Cops: Man Cashes Fake Village Check for over $4K

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Grand Larceny, Fraud

Croton police picked up Christopher Diaz, 21, of the Bronx from the 43rd precinct in New York City on a warrant arrest for previous charges here of Grand Larceny in the third and possession of a forged instrument in the second.

According to Croton Police, Diaz had fraudulently cashed a village check for over $4,000 that an unknown person had reproduced.

Diaz was arraigned in Croton on Sept. 17 and taken to Westchester County Jail.

Bike Stolen, Recovered

A bike reported stolen on Sept. 17 from a 17-year-old resident on Grand Street was apparently returned the next day, police said.

Warrant Arrest

Police arrested a Garrison man, aged 63, on Sept. 18 on an active warrant for his arrest stemming from DWI-drug charges. He was arraigned and taken to Westchester County Jail.

Gravity Knife

Police stopped a driver on Sept. 21 who they found had his license suspended and an illegal weapon in his possession.

The 25-year-old Croton man was stopped and allegedly found with a gravity knife, which police described as a knife that opens one-handed and locks into place.

Disorderly Person

Police sent a drunk man on his (long) way early Sunday morning, police said.

They found a man in front of Bagels on Hudson at 3:57 a.m. Sept. 22 "intoxicated and trying to get to the Bronx," police said.

Police helped the man get a taxi.

False ID

Police charged three young people with false impersonation and/or obstruction of justice when the driver issued a fake ID to police and his passengers "went along with it," police said.

Two men, 21 and 22, from Elmsford, and a woman, 18, of White Plains, were charged with obstructing government administration when they played along with the fake name their driver gave to police, "making it worse," police said.

The driver was charged with false impersonation.

Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
