Croton Cops Investigate Jewel Theft from Nursing Home

A summary of recent police activity in the village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Hunters Behind House

A Georgia Lane resident called police on Dec. 31 after 9 a.m. to report seeing hunters behind his house in the area of the power lines. 

Police forwarded the call to state police who investigated. 

Silly String

A Morningside Drive resident reported to police on Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. that her car had been the victim of criminal mischief in the same way that it had been on Halloween. 

Police found it had been covered with silly string; it was cleaned off. 

Theft from Nursing Home

An Ackerman Court resident reported to police that her mother, living in the Sky View Nursing Home, had been missing a white gold 1.2 karat diamond ring since some time in December. 

Police are investigating it as a felony theft as the ring had an estimated value of $2,500. 

Broken Bottle

A Whelan Avenue resident reported to police criminal mischief that occurred overnight on their front steps. 

On Jan. 3 at 10:20 a.m., they said they found a wine bottle broken on their front steps. Police found no permanent damage and said patrols would keep their eye out. 

Footprints

A woman called in what she thought were suspicious footprints in the snow outside her home on Beekman Avenue. 

On Jan. 3 at 11:12 p.m., police found them and identified them as deer prints. 

False Student Loan

On Jan. 4 at 4 p.m. a 27-year-old Alexander Lane caller told police thy had been the victim of a fraudulent act. The caller said someone had applied for a student loan and credit card under their name, as of Jan. 13, 2013. 

Police are investigating. 

Graffiti at Middle School

The head custodian of PVC Middle School informed police that he had found graffiti on the maintenance building on Jan. 6 at 10:14 a.m. Police filed a criminal mischief case.
