Croton Cops: 'Con-Ed' Conman Demands Money Order or Lights Out

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Drunk Gets Ride

Police helped a drunk man out just after midnight on Jan. 15, when they gave him "a courtesy ride home," Det. Paul Camillieri said.

A resident called about a disorderly person yelling in the roadway on Amber Drive. Police came across a 55-year-old Croton who they reported to be intoxicated and got him safely home.

Petty Larceny

An Ulster Park resident was charged with petty larceny after a person known to him accused him of stealing their electronic reading device.

A High Street resident said they had loaned him the device and it had not been returned. Police released him on $100 bail.

Conned by Con Ed?

An employee at Carmen's Unisex Salon told police on Jan. 16 that a man had called the shop saying he was from Con Edison and that if they didn't pay their balance, their electricity would be cut.

He said they owed $363 which they needed to pay in money orders. The salon worker called Con Edison, who said they were in good standing and that was certainly not them. They then called police.

Mailbox Mischief

A Lounsbury Road resident reported to police that their mailbox had been destroyed overnight on Jan. 17. Det. Paul Camillieri said they would be checking the area in the future.

He found this unusual as "these things tend to come in groups. Maybe they were caught before they destroyed the other eight."

Messy Late Night Carousing

North Highland residents told police on Jan. 18 that their neighbors were often outside between noon and 3 a.m., drinking and leaving a mess in the street.

Car Tire

A Sunset Drive woman reported to police that her tire had been punctured. Police said they were unsure if it was a case of criminal mischief or not.

Note: an arrest does not indicate a conviction.
