Croton Cops Collect Pounds of Prescription Meds, Make DWI Arrest

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Drug Collection Success

The recent Saturday drug Take Back event in Croton-on-Hudson garnered about 160 pounds of old, unused and unwanted medications, Sgt. John Nikitopoulos reports.

Add to that about 25 pounds that people have dropped off in the collection box at police headquarters for the last six months. This poundage of prescription meds is "bigger than last spring," he said, so the effort was a success.

Slashed Tire

A woman who had parked her on car on Grand Street, where she lives, found that she had a flat tire the morning of Oct. 22.

She told police that her mechanic told her it looked like it had been slashed. She thinks this happened sometime between Saturday and Sunday in front of her house.

Tire Parts on Route 9

Police responded to a report of a hazardous condition on Route 9 on Oct. 23. They found tire debris in the roadway which they removed and notified the DPW about.

DWI

A Cortlandt Manor woman, aged 31, was charged with driving while intoxicated after Croton police stopped her for traffic violations at 4:25 a.m. on Oct. 26.

She was giving a chemical test at headquarters, where she was charged with DWI, and released on $200 bail with an upcoming court date.

Finney Farm Fraud

A Finney Farm resident reported to Croton police on Oct. 28 that he had been contacted by what seemed to be a phone scam.

The caller said they represented "Public Clearing Security" and asked the resident to go to CVS and buy a money card with $503.99 on it and call back to activate the pin number. The man didn't do that, calling police instead.

Rollover

Police got numerous calls of a rollover accident on Route 9 north of Senasqua Road on Oct. 27 around 10:09 a.m.

Police notified the FD and EMS. After the 45-year-old Yonkers man was rescued from the car he was treated by EMS and transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not serious, Sgt. Nikitopoulos said.

Police don't know what caused the accident at this time, he said.

Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
