Croton Cops: Burglar, Surprised by Kid, Escapes Home with Sack of Stuff

A youth arrived at his Pine Hill home at 3:02 p.m. on Dec. 12 to find a burglar in action.

The burglar apparently entered the home by using a large rock to break through the basement back door, Det. Paul Camillieri said.

The juvenile saw the man with "a bag full of stuff that belonged to his mother." He simply left and got in his car and drove away, Camillieri said.

Police did not have more information on the value or the nature of the items, but the home appeared to have been "ransacked," Camillieri said.

The thief was described as a heavyset white male of unknown age, over six feet tall, wearing a black jacket and jeans.

He drove off with a maroon or red Honda Accord-type car.

State Police are still investigating as the home is in their boundaries, Camillieri said.
