Aqueduct Tree Critically Injures Child

Police report that a child was in critical condition after a tree struck a girl and her father walking on the Old Croton Aqueduct.

During a thunderstorm, a tree fell on a father and his daughter while walking on the Old Croton Aqueduct. The father was hurt and his daughter was critically injured. The daughter, by last report, was on a ventilator at Westchester Medical Center. 

Around 5:47 p.m. on September 8, a father and daughter walking about 100 yards north of West Sunnyside Lane in Tarrytown had reportedly been struck by a falling tree. The father, according to the Tarrytown Police blotter entry, was able to bring himself and his daughter to West Sunnyside Lane where they were picked up by a passing driver and taken to the Irvington Fire Department headquarters on Main Street. 

Both father and daughter were transported by Irvington Ambulance Corps and Greenburgh ALS to Westchester County Medical Center. It was last reported (on the evening of Sept. 8), said Tarrytown Police, that the child was in critical condition and on a ventilator.

Police have not revealed where the father and daughter are from, or how old the child is.

The New York State Park Police have taken over the case as the incident occurred on State Park property. The story will be updated as more information arrives from park police.
