2 Free Performances of The Prisoner of Second Avenue

YCP TheaterWorks Presents 2 free performances of Neil Simon's The Prisoner of Second Avenue

YCP TheaterWorks will present two FREE performances of their recently
sold-out run of The Prisoner of Second Avenue.  Performances are set for 2:00 PM on Saturday,  December 17 and 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 18 at The John C. Hart Memorial Library, 1130 East Main Street, Shrub Oak NY 10588.  Seating is on a first come,  first served basis and doors will open one-half hour before the performances.

One of Neil Simon’s most popular comedies, The Prisoner of Second Avenue tells the story of advertising executive Mel Edison (Jonathan Nelson) who has just lost his job after many years and now has to cope with being unemployed at middle age. Mel and his steadfast wife Edna (Elise Godfrey) are pitted against an assault by modern Manhattan—heat waves, garbage strikes, noisy neighbors and rampant crime.

Will Mrs. Edison’s ascent into the marketplace balance the ledger or will Mel’s cabin fever drive him to a nervous breakdown?  Will the loving care of his brother Harry (Bruce Apar), his three sisters (Connie Dyckman, Elaine Hartel and Anne Rodgers Pearl) and Edna strengthen his grip on mental stability?  The themes assure the audience of relevance for these times.

Seasoned director Joel Karpoff will tackle Simon’s trademark fast-paced wit and, in this case, bleak view of American life.  Joel has directed for Company Players for 15 years.  In addition, he directed two shows a year for five years of the Heritage Hills Theater Guild.  Among his many directorial successes are California Suite, Fiddler on the Roof, The Odd Couple (Male and female versions) and Love, Sex and the IRS.  Most recently, he directed Social Security and Barefoot in the Park for YCP TheaterWorks.
