On Behalf of the Community, a Sincere Thank You

A thank you to all those who participated in the Memorial Day celebrations of 2011.

For the second year in a row I have marched in both Ossining and Briarcliff Manor’s Memorial Day parades.  It gives me great pleasure to honor the brave men and women who have fought for our country by memorializing them on this day.  While I have only marched in the parades for the past two years, I have attended them since I was a child.  Every year, fewer and fewer veterans are alive to honor their dead brethren, and the crowds that attend these ceremonies seem to have thinned out.  But whatever the reason, we must always be aware of the sacrifices others have made in order for us to live freely, and Memorial Day allows us to do that.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the residents who came out for these events this past Memorial Day.  I would also like to thank the families of those who lost loved ones in the many tragic wars this country has endured.  Lastly, I would like to thank the American Legion and Boy Scout Troop 49 for decorating the graves of veterans two weeks ago.  To see our nation’s flag among many of the graves in Ossining gives me a great sense of joy and pride.  We, as a community, must never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.  That is to remember those who gave their lives for us.
