Extensive Damage to Grave Stones in Dale Cemetery.

About two dozen grave stones in Dale Cemetery, Ossining, lay on the ground. Many of them broken.
There are three sources of the damage. Storm damage or vandalism seems the cause for most, while rocks rolling down a hill took out some headstones.
The cemetery storage area for dirt and rocks left over from grave digging sits atop a hill with graves  below.
Large rocks, some larger than basketballs, rolled down the hill and hit several gravestones—toppling some and breaking others.
The rocks were most likely either dumped improperly, or came loose from the piles due to weather. See photos for a review of the damage.
The Town of Ossining holds responsibility for Dale Cemetery. Town Supervisor, Sue Donnelly said " Some of these gravestones have been like that for too many years.  We are working on a series of action steps to rectify all the issues at Dale and to make it the beautiful Memorial Park it should be." Donnelly also said she will update the Patch on next steps shortly.
The areas damaged include sections E, G, R and S, in the lower, Southeast part of the cemetery.
