Community Corner

Don't let your waterfront become a playground for the rich!

The town meeting for the feasibility study on the boat club has been put off until January.  Just like the padlocking of the boat club, we have effectively been "locked out" of the the feasibility process until it is so far along that our input is invalid.  This is truly shameful.  It shows an utter disregard for the opinions of the Ossining community at large.  It is my opinion that Sue is railroading this process through as quickly as possible to minimize input from the community.  Really do we need another "World class" restaurant?  One 5,000 square foot high end restaurant is already going to being built right next door to the OBCC property.  There will already be two other high end restaurants in the immediate vicinity as well.  How many high end restaurants can this community support.  This is a recipe for financial failure.  They would have known this if a financial feasibility study was done first.  I sure hope the people that live in the 188 luxury condos next door have healthy appetites!  Wouldn't this money be better put to good use by hiring more teachers and investing in Ossining schools rather than catering to the rich?  In my opinion, Sue's vision for the Ossining waterfront overrides the needs of the many to benefit the few.  This scenario has played itself out all along the Hudson and the results are predictable.  Destroying a boat club that is the last toe hold of blue collar access to the waterfront is truly shameful.  Don't let this injustice happen.  I will be at the Ossining Library on November 19th to peacefully protest this injustice.  Hopefully OBCC will be the little boat club that could!
