William G. Pointer, former Chief, Ossining Fire Department

William G. Pointer 76, of Schoharie, formerly of Ossining, died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, April 15 at home in Schoharie, NY.

   Bill was born June 2, 1937 in Ossining, NY, son of Burt Pritchard Pointer and Anna (Anderson) Pointer. A 1955 graduate of Ossining High School, Bill served in the National Guard and US Air Force. He was a Village of Ossining police officer and then worked for Maue Oil.

   An active volunteer fireman for 50 plus years with Independent Hose Co. #6, he served as Fire Chief from 1980 to 1986. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #506, the NYS Fire Chiefs’ Association, the Ossining Ex-Chiefs’ Association, FASNY, and Teamsters Local #456. Bill enjoyed his home in the country, watching NASCAR, mowing with his tractor, and plowing with his ‘Scout’, as well as spending time with his grandchildren. Born and raised in Ossining; he loved and was loyal to this community.
   Survivors include his devoted wife Marilyn (Corti) Pointer whom he married May 6, 1962; a daughter Stephanie Pointer Brunetta (Scott Brady) of Oneonta; a son W. Andrew “Andy” (Christine) Pointer of Ossining; and two grandchildren, Caitlin Pointer and Peter Brunetta.

   Visiting Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Dorsey. Funeral Service Tuesday at 11 AM at Dorsey. Interment to follow at Dale Cemetery. Services also held on Saturday, April 19 in Schoharie.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bill to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, Scho-Wright Ambulance Service, PO Box 325, Schoharie, NY 12157 or the Ossining Fire Department, 21 State Street, Ossining, NY 10562.
