Robert Van Bloom: GM Plant Engineer

Robert T. Van Bloom passed away on March 19, 2014 at the N.Y.S. Veterans Home in Montrose.   

He had also lived in Croton at the Springvale Inn for three years. He was born on Oct. 14, 1925 to Edwin C. & Julia (O’Herron) Bloom in Ossining, NY.  He was a graduate of St. Augustine’s School and Ossining High School.  

Robert graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy as an Engineering Officer in the North Atlantic.  He served in the Naval Reserves until 1960.

He was employed as a Marine Engineer for the Moore McCormack Line in San Francisco.  He was a Plant Engineer for General Motors in N. Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) for over 40 years.  In retirement he lived in N. Carolina and travelled extensively in the Blue Ridge Mountains before he settled near Yadkinville.  

Robert was predeceased by his parents and brothers William and James.  He is survived by his sister, Patricia B Brady of Sleepy Hollow and 11 nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial Mon. 11am at St Christopher’s Church in Buchanan, NY with internment to follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster.
