Ossining's Donny Berretta Dies at 56

Donny was a Life Member of the Ossining Fire Department.

Donald M. Berretta a lifelong resident of Ossining passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY.

Donald was born in N. Tarrytown on March 26, 1956 and was the son of the late Michael and Winifred (Smith) Berretta. Donny was 56.

Donald was a graduate of Ossining High School, Class of 1974.  He then Graduated from Butler College on Indianapolis, IN and then returned to Ossining.

Donny was a Life Member of the Ossining Fire Department joining in 1982 as a member of Recue 14 and from 1986 to the present he was a member of Washington Hook & Ladder Co. Donald was a member of the Westchester County Firemen’s Association, the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, The Royal Order of the Blue Vest and FASNY.  Donald was Ossining Fire Department Dispatcher # 31 and fondly remembered as serving as Santa Claus. Donald was a dispatcher with the Town of Greenburgh Police Department.

Donald is survived by his sister Michele Caldwell of Miamisberg, OH; his nephew Graeme A Caldwell; his aunt Doris Smith and many cousins. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:00 PM at Ossining , 3 Emwilton Pl., Ossining NY.  The interment will be private.  Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the The Small Change Fund, c/o of the Firemen’s Home of the State of NY, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534 would be appreciated.
