Maryknoll Receives 29 Awards

Maryknoll's publications receive 29 awards for excellence in magazine and book publishing.

The Maryknoll Society received 29 awards, including 11 first place awards, for Maryknoll magazine, Revista Maryknoll and Orbis Books at the 2012 Catholic Press Association awards competition. The awards were announced at the end of June.

Maryknoll’s magazines received 10 awards, with six presented to the Spanish-language publication Revista Maryknoll.

Revista Maryknoll received the “Best Single Photo – Color” award (pictured here) in the category of magazines and newsletters and the “General Excellence” award among all Spanish-language publications. Revista Maryknoll also claimed first place prizes for “Best Personality Profile” and “Best Lead Article,” and second place awards for “Best Cover” and for “Best Feature Story.”

Maryknoll magazine received second place recognition for “Best Original Poetry” with “Flirting with the truth” by Father Joseph R. Veneroso. The magazine won third place for “Best Interview” for its article about a Maryknoll Sister who recalled her early years in mission in China and subsequent expulsion during the Communist Revolution.

Maryknoll magazine also received honorable mentions for “Best Feature Article” and for “Best Web and Print Combination Package.”

Among the field of book publishers, Maryknoll’s Orbis Books received 19 awards that included seven first place awards. Orbis won in the categories of spirituality, theology, educational books, gender issues, faith and science, biography and first time author (Tom Roberts for The Emerging Catholic Church).

The complete list of awards presented to Maryknoll can be found in an article that appears through August on the home page of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers website.
