A World of Prayer, a collection of prayers from more than 100 prominent men and women from every religious tradition and from around the world, is the latest book by Rosalind Bradley, a member of an interfaith initiative known as Companions in Dialogue.
A World of Prayer is published by Orbis Books, the book division of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. Within its 240 pages, Ms. Bradley has collected not only favorite prayers from prominent people of faith but also their reflections on the meanings of the chosen prayers. Contributors include Nobel Peace Prize recipients Lech Walesa, Mairead Corrigan, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Prayers and reflections are provided by the Dalai Lama, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, Rabbi Jacqueline Tabick and theologian Hans Küng. Contributions were made by spiritual writers Richard Rohr and Joan Chittister, and artists and musicians Pete Seeger and Usuf Islam.
The prayers include classic and familiar texts from every religious tradition. Some selections surprisingly are personal, offering a glimpse into the hearts of many outstanding contemporary leaders.
Ms. Bradley previously edited Mosaic: Favorite Prayers and Reflections from Inspiring Australians (HarperCollins Australia, 2008). A native of Great Britain, she has lived in Australia for the past 25 years.
