Gone letterboxing lately? It's a new outdoor pasttime gaining some serious steam. Armed with a notepad, pen and stamper, letterboxers prowl the woods in search of hidden boxes.
The hider of the letterbox puts a notebook and stamp in a waterproof container, places it in the woods, and then posts clues to its whereabouts. Those in search of these containers can find the clues to a letterboxing site on www.letterboxing.org. When found, the letterboxer stamps the notebook with their own unique stamp and then uses the stamp from the letterbox in a notebook of their own, creating a keepsake of places visited.
Teatown Lake Reservation has 2 letterboxes hidden on its 863 acre property. The clues to find the boxes can be found on www.letterboxing.org under box names A Magical Place and Westchester Woods: Letterbox D. Happy searching!
Teatown Lake Reservation is located at 1600 Spring Valley Road, Ossining.
