Where Do I Meet the Tutor?

Ossining Tutor, LInda Lichtenstein, writes about how to find out where to meet your tutor so your child gets the most effective learning time.

This is a question that is very common among parents.  Many parents say "it is more convenient if they come to my house."  But here are several reasons not to have the tutor come to your house.

1.  Safety - Most tutors require another adult in the home at the time of the session to avoid situations that are potentially dangerous.  Not everyone can afford a nanny, which means that one of the parents has to be home at the time of the session.  In this economy, that is becoming less common.

2.  Distractions - There are many distractions that the students have in their homes.  One might be a pet.  Many times in the tutoring sessions students will see the dog outside playing, or the dog will be barking or have to go out.  This leads to distractions that prohibits learning and concentration.

3.  Siblings - Siblings may sometimes try to see what the other sibling is doing (especially if it looks exciting).  They may try to ask them something that has nothing to do with tutoring. Or they may be making noise such as loud TV or video games.

4.  Other Toys and Objects - Sometimes students may get distracted because of their enviroment and other toys and objects around them.  They will see them or talk to you about them.  This leads to wasted time.

5.  Not a proper room for tutoring available -   Private houses have the same general set up.  Kitchen, Living Room, Den, Bedrooms etc.

Most parents would not want a tutor in the child's bedroom with a closed door.  Kitchens would be a distraction for obvious reasons.  Living rooms probably have other people in them.  Therefore, I feel that the best place to meet a tutor is in a quiet public place such as: a library.  That way you get the safety of being in a public place while having a quiet enviroment.  If you feel that you need a tutor for your chil, please contact me via email at:  linda1988@verizon.net or through my profile listed at care.com.  Here is that link http://www.care.com/r/tutor/lindal284
