T'was the night before Christmas
And through the town
Everything was disorganized
Just take a look around
Our storefronts are empty
There is nothing to buy
If there is something that is necessary
Your lucky if you can find it nearby
Our street are a mess
They are garbage strewn
But our taxes are higher
We have so many boards
All seeking increases
We struggle to afford
While our quality of life decreases
The School Board claims
A four million plus shortfall
How can this be?
Someone has dropped the ball?
Our children need to be educated
So that's how they explain
But our schools are poorly rated
So who is to blame?
Our Proud Ossining Indian they took away
Removed, supposedly to retain state aid
They gave us a flower or was it a zero Don't they get it?
It was not a fair trade
A cap is not to be
For the Village Board has voted Another tax increase - Yipee!
My faith in government is eroded
Then there is all the controversy
Over which holiday greeting to use
For me it is easy It's "Merry Christmas" I choose!
With recent events in the news
It just seems sadness has transpired
And it is easy to lose yourself
And feel so uninspired
But this is the season of hope
Of peace and good will
And when you look at the children
Their excitement gives you a thrill
So may your thoughts be happy
For a future that's bright
No worries about the Mayan Calendar
For you know it ain't right
So to end on a happy note
Thankful for another year
With family and friends
And of course a cold beer
As that famous poem ended
So shall this one Merry Christmas to all
And to all a year filled with fun
